About the project
The project “Digital journey through Muskau Arch Geopark” is co-financed by the European Union with funds from the European Regional Development Fund as part of the Poland-Saxony 2021-2027 INTERREG Cooperation Program.
The total value of the project is €691 190,00, of which the European Union is funding 80%.
The project was co-funded by the State Budget of the Republic of Poland under the “International Co-Financed Projects” Programme.
Project objectives
The aim of the project is to increase the international recognition and attractiveness of the support area of the border of Poland and Saxony (Geopark Muskau Arch) by expanding the tourist offer with digital, virtual models of natural, cultural and mining heritage and the related intensification of cooperation in the field of digital competences of society.
The first specific objective is to develop an interactive tourist offer of the border area of Poland and Saxony and the reproduction of cultural and mining heritage in a virtual reality environment.
The second specific objective is to promote thematic tourism in the footsteps of geological and mining heritage in the Polish-Saxon border region and development of digital competence of society.
Tourists, residents of the Polish-Saxon border region and people interested in the heritage of the Muskau Arc region, who thanks to the realisation of the project will receive a more interesting touristic offer including information about it in three languages (Polish, German, English).
Tourist organisations and organisations offering touristic services on the Polish and German sides of the border, who will receive an opportunity to establish or develop cross-border contacts.
Public administration and local government units on both sides of the border, who will receive guidelines and instructions on how to use digital technologies to support tourism.
Seniors and people with disabilities, including the residents of the Polish-Saxon border region, who will be given the opportunity to develop digital competences and access to information about the support region presented in a pleasant and easily readable manner.
Target groups
Public and non-public education system units on both sides of the border, which will receive the tools and materials useful in teaching activities.
Youth interested in modern, digital techniques, spatial visualisation and presentation of information, who will be given the opportunity to develop digital competences and better access to information.
Associations, non-government organisations (NGO’s) just like for the public administration units.
Experts in the field of cultural, natural and industrial heritage.
Results
1. Augmented reality application that takes the user back to the times of industrial activity carried out in the area and brings closer the common history of the area using mobile devices.
2. Interactive field game for mobile devices with educational elements.
Development of a joint strategy for tourist activation and promotion, which will allow for achieving a long-term result of sustainable tourism development, preservation and promotion of the Muskau Arch mining heritage.
