Field surveys of post-mining facilities

Field surveys of post-mining facilities

On 18 December 2025, a research team from Wrocław University of Science and Technology, as part of the project “Digital journey through Muskau Arch Geopark”, carried out field surveys of a renovated post-mining building, which currently serves as the Cultural and Educational Centre of the Muskau Arch Geopark in Łęknica.

During the fieldwork, data were collected using a drone, a 360° camera, and terrestrial laser scanning with a BLK360 scanner. The acquired data will be used to reconstruct a three-dimensional model of the building and, subsequently, based on archival materials, to digitally recreate its condition during the period when the Babina mine was in operation. These results will be incorporated into a developing augmented reality application, enabling users to explore the historical appearance and functions of the site.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Cultural and Educational Centre of the Muskau Arch Geopark in Łęknica for their warm hospitality, guided tour, and openness to further fruitful cooperation.

The project “Digital journey through Muskau Arch Geopark”, implemented in partnership with TU Bergakademie Freiberg and EWZT, is co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under the INTERREG Poland–Saxony Cooperation Programme 2021–2027.
