In June 27, 2025, our staff members – Dr. Eng. Jarosław Wajs and Dr. Eng. Damian Kasza – represented the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformatics at Wrocław University of Science and Technology during the ceremony of awarding the title of “Rock of the Year”.
“Rock of the Year” is an annual event organized by the Committee of the German Association of Geoscientists (BDG – Berufsverband Deutscher Geowissenschaftler e. V.). Since its first edition in 2007, the initiative has aimed to raise public awareness of geology, highlight geological, economic, and cultural significance, and promote a year-round educational program.
For the first time in history, this year’s edition – held at the Old Brickyard (Klein Kölzig, UNESCO Global Geopark Muskauer Faltenbogen / Łuk Mużakowa) – had a cross-border character and was organized in cooperation with the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute. The winner of the 2025 edition was “clay”.
Due to the cross-border nature of the event and the presence of representatives from both the scientific community and local governments from Poland and Germany, it was also an excellent opportunity to promote our project “A Digital Journey Through the Łuk Mużakowa Geopark”, implemented under the INTERREG Poland–Saxony Cooperation Programme 2021–2027.
We will return to the Old Brickyard on September 29 for the first conference related to the above-mentioned project.
